Use & Dosage
Use under the arm
This method is used for babies and small children.
1. Rub the armpit dry with a dry towel.
2. Place the probe tip under the arm so that the end makes contact with the skin, and place the patient's arm next to his/her body.
With a small child, it is sometimes useful to hold the child against you so that his/her arm remains next to the body. This prevents the room temperature from affecting the measured value.
3. When the peak temperature is reached, beeps will sound. The temperature is now confirmed. When the thermometer is removed from the measurement site, the corresponding colour is displayed.
4. Switch off the thermometer and clean it as indicated below.
Oral use
This method is suitable for children who are old enough to safely hold the thermometer in their mouth.
1. It is important that you place the tip of the thermometer well under the tongue, on the left or right, to obtain a good, accurate value. Place the sensor tip in one of the places under the tongue marked with “√” (Fig. 2). Keep the patient's mouth closed and have them sit still to ensure an accurate measurement.
2. When the peak temperature is reached, beeps will sound. The temperature is now confirmed. When the thermometer is removed from the measurement site, the corresponding colour is displayed.
3. Switch off the thermometer and clean it as indicated below.
Rectal use
Often used for babies and small children, or when measuring in the mouth or under the arm is difficult.
1. Apply a little water-soluble lubricant to the tip of the thermometer to make it easier to insert. Do not use petroleum jelly. Read the lubricant label to ensure you are using the correct type.
2. Lay the patient on his/her side. The correct position for babies is lying on their stomach, with their legs hanging down. You can lay the baby across your knees, on the edge of a bed or a changing table. In this position, the thermometer can be safely and easily placed in the rectum.
3. Carefully insert the tip of the thermometer a MAXIMUM of 1.3 cm into the rectum. Stop if you feel resistance. Keep the thermometer in place during the measurement.
4. When the peak temperature is reached, beeps will sound. The temperature is now confirmed. When the thermometer is removed from the measurement site, the corresponding colour is displayed.
5. Switch off the thermometer and clean it as indicated below.
