How it works

Carelastin eye drops contain the active substance azelastine hydrochloride, a clinically proven anti-allergen (antihistamine). During an allergic reaction, the body produces histamine, which leads to inflammatory symptoms such as itching, swelling and redness in the eyes. Azelastine blocks the action of histamine and also helps to reduce local eye inflammation. By applying the drops directly into the eye, the symptoms are addressed locally and quickly, helping your eyes to settle down rapidly.

benzalkonium chloride (E210), disodium edetate, hypromellose, liquid sorbitol (crystallising) (E420i), sodium hydroxide (E524) and water for injections.

Use & Dosage

The recommended dosage is:

Eye conditions caused by hay fever (seasonal allergic conjunctivitis):
• Use by adults and children aged 4 years and older.
• The usual dose is one drop in each eye in the morning and in the evening.
If you expect to come into contact with pollen, the usual dose of Carelastin azelastine eye drops can be taken as a precaution before going outside.

Eye conditions caused by allergy (non-seasonal allergic conjunctivitis):
• Use by adults and children aged 12 years and older.
• The usual dose is one drop in each eye in the morning and in the evening.
If your symptoms are severe, your doctor may increase the dose to a maximum of one drop in each eye four times a day.
Relief of allergic eye symptoms should be noticeable within 15-30 minutes after administration.

Maximum dosage: 2x per 24 hours (unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor for severe symptoms).

Instructions for use:
For the correct method of administration, read the leaflet before use. Improvement is noticeable within 15-30 minutes. Use regularly until symptoms have disappeared. • Possible short-term blurred vision after using the eye drops. If this happens, wait until vision clears before driving or using machines.
• Consult a GP for: people who are short of breath or wheezing; people with very swollen eyes and coloured eye discharge; people with symptoms on only one side of the nose; people with moderate to severe symptoms where the medicines do not help sufficiently; women who are pregnant and experiencing these symptoms for the first time.
• In case of a reaction to the Oak Processionary Moth: consult a doctor in case of thickening lips, tongue or eyelids, or shortness of breath and wheezing; in case of eye symptoms that do not improve after rinsing the eyes; or in case of symptoms that do not decrease after 2 weeks.
