How it works

The Heltiq Maternity Kit Complete is designed to provide rest and structure in your preparation step by step. From week 36 of your pregnancy, you start preparing the maternity bed with the help of the included mattress protector and maternity mattresses. The various components in the box support both a home birth and the daily checks and care by the midwife and maternity nurse during the maternity week. Maternity mattresses and underpads with absorbent core, sterile plastic umbilical cord clamp, alcohol 70% denatured, 100% cotton absorbent wool, textile-based adhesive tape, absorbent maternity pads and sanitary pads with non-woven top layer, soft breast pads, sterile and non-sterile gauze compresses.

Use & Dosage

Step 1. Start preparing your maternity bed from 36 weeks of pregnancy.
Step 2. Raise your bed to at least 80 cm using (rented) bed blocks or use crates.
Step 3. Take the mattress protector out of the maternity kit. Use this to protect your mattress if your waters break at night. Place the mattress protector widthwise on the mattress where the lower body is located and tuck the mattress protector around the mattress.
Step 4. Place a fitted sheet over the mattress and the mattress protector.
Step 5. Take the two maternity mattresses and place them on top of the fitted sheet where the lower body is located.
Step 6. Do you prefer not to lie directly on the maternity mattresses? Then place an extra fitted sheet over the bed.
Step 7. The underpads are used during home birth and for carrying out checks by the midwife and maternity nurse during the maternity week. You can also use the underpads next to the maternity mattresses as extra protection for your bed.

What do you use the other products in the maternity kit for?
The midwife uses the umbilical cord clamp during home birth to clamp the umbilical cord.
You use the maternity pads when your waters have broken and in the first days after childbirth.
You use the sanitary pads when the blood loss decreases.
You use the bottle of alcohol and the cotton wool for disinfecting the baby's thermometer. The maternity nurse also uses this for disinfecting the mother's thermometer.
The gauze compresses and the adhesive tape are used by the midwife and maternity nurse for wound care.
You use the breast pads for collecting breast milk during the breastfeeding period.
