- PMS symptoms of the Vata type include back pain, lower abdominal pain, bloating, anxiety, insomnia and mood swings.
- Pitta-type PMS is characterized by breast tenderness, skin problems, hot flashes, irritability, and sometimes a burning sensation when urinating.
- Breasts of Kapha-type individuals become enlarged and sensitive. Feelings of depression, nausea, or even vomiting shortly before menstruation may occur.

It's important to anticipate your symptoms and align them with your menstrual cycle. This is the only way to reduce PMS symptoms. Some preventative tips include:
- Make sure you get regular exercise throughout the month, for example by going for a walk.
- Yoga and stretching exercises are beneficial.
- Breathing exercises and meditation are important to address mood swings.
- During menstruation, Ayurveda suggests avoiding sports and yoga. So relax, read, and unwind as much as possible!

For bloating and cramps, a cloth soaked in castor oil can provide relief. Castor oil slowly generates a sustained warmth that is soothing and healing. Take 3 teaspoons of warming castor oil and pour it onto a handkerchief or other soft cloth, spreading it evenly. Place the cloth on your lower abdomen. Alternatively, you can pour a few drops (5-10 drops) onto your navel. Place a hot water bottle on top of the cloth to keep it warm.
